The Teaching Introduction Pages are a two-page spread aimed at engaging student thinking, building conceptual understanding and working towards procedural fluency.
These pages include the following elements:
Open-ended exploration questions to engage student thinking relevant to the concept before teaching
Conceptual understanding based explanation
Step-by-step guide of the procedure in words and with example
Differentiated examples to work as a class (teacher and students)
Independent practice questions (extension); for students who finish Your Turn early
Students tick boxes next to statements matching the Learning Intention(s)
Students look for patterns and draw conclusions
Recalling prior-knowledge from a previous lesson or year.
Think About It
Discussion questions aimed to deepen student understanding
Independent practice questions (support and on-level)
An activity involving creative solutions; for students who finish Extension questions early
Pause and Reflect
Reflective questions for students to answer about their learning
We offer Teaching Presentations that match the Teaching Introduction Pages from the Student Workbooks exactly. This is to save you time and energy!
The goal of the presentations is to bring quality, consistency and ease to Mathematics teaching. You can project it onto a screen and teach directly from there.
Any teacher or reliever should be able to walk into the classroom and teach a robust Maths lesson using the Teaching Presentations!
The Teaching Presentations are accessible through our online Teacher Subscription. We have a free version with a few presentations for each unit and a paid version with full access to all presentations on all concepts.
Year 7 Level Colours:
Differentiated Practice Pages
Each concept has three levelled pages with varying difficulty and quantity of problems.
Has problems that allow access to all students by hitting the stage just below the year level and build up to the on-level problems; plenty of working space provided
Has problems that are at the right stage for the year level and progress towards extension thinking
Has problems that extend understanding of the concept by using backwards thinking and/or a variety of numbers (larger numbers, decimal numbers, fractions, etc.)
Each year level workbook has these levelled pages in different colours.
We suggest letting students choose their own level of work for the day. This EMPOWERS them to take charge of their learning and succeed!
Year 8 Level Colours:
Each concept also has a Puzzle Page. This is intended for use after students finish their chosen differentiated practice page (and mark). It could also be used as a one-off lesson or a revision sheet.
The puzzles are fun, engaging and differentiated ways for students to practice the concept. We love them because they help students check their understanding as they go!
Now for the best part - we have answers too!
There is a separate answer book to use in the classroom. Answers are also posted to our website for educators with an online subscription or can be purchased as a PDF at a price per teacher.
Answers to the Teaching Introduction Pages are on the Teaching Presentations, also available to educators with an online subscription.
Some differentiated basic facts pages
Māori workbook pages that educate about Te Reo Māori (e.g. how to count, naming shapes, etc.)
Tests that match the concepts in each unit that can be used as practice tests or post-tests
Our Student Workbooks also include:
